A second Ban-designed retreat, complete with a dramatic exterior sloped entranceway and a restaurant, will open on the same grounds as the first hotel.

Further bolstering Karuizawa’s status as an architectural hub, SSH No.3, designed by award-winning architect Ryue Nishizawa, reflects an innovative contemporary riff on Japan’s traditional sukiya teahouse-style architecture, using hinoki cypress wood.
